I’ll See You In My Memories, began when my great-grandmother was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Every family deals with loss in different ways, and my family has the tendency to bury the photographic memories of our lost loved ones when they have passed. Realizing that losing my great-grandmother meant losing access to her history, I set about digitally combining her archival family images with new photographs of myself to explore the emotional contrasts between the past and present generations. The act of placing myself in the photographic evidence of my grandmother’s memories helped me know her as the young woman I did not have the privilege to know. It helped me continue to feel close to the older woman I have known throughout my life. With her passing away in March, these photographs honor a woman who never left the house without mascara, mauve colored lipstick, and a purse full of Werther's butterscotch and violet candies.
